Serving God for 60 Years at Dorothy Lane American
Baptist Church

We are a small church with a big heart located across from the Community Golf Course on West Dorothy Lane in Kettering, Ohio. We are a loving fellowship of people striving to walk Jesus' way. We cordially invite you and your family to join us in our journey together.

Our Sunday worship service is now on YouTube. Search for Pastor Karen E Johnson. We've included an Order of Worship under our Newsletter Tab to go along with Pastor Karen's Sermons. There is also a midweek devotion and some music by Jack Smith. Please join us online!

We hope to be gathering again in our sanctuary in the near future. Our worship service may be a little different, but who we worship will be the same.

Used to be the Good Old Days - It’s a Quieter World Now - There’s an Even Better Future

Loud noises startle me. Used to not bother me at all. I’m now used to quietness because there is just less going on. Had to go to the Post Office. A person insisted on holding the door for me. Quite uncomfortable to be at that close range. How our world has changed. It’s funny, but you don’t know when you were in the midst of the ‘good old days’ until after they are gone. I believe in the future, we will look back on these last few decades as reckless and lived with great abandon, even though we thought it was just normal, everyday life.

Someday, someday soon, we will be able to have Worship Services together in our church. But it won’t be a return to what we used to do. Our initial times together will be quieter, masked, worship-only experiences. Without Sunday School before or snacks and fellowship after. Sitting apart intentionally, being mostly silent in Worship, waving to each other, going home and calling someone to say, ‘hey, good to see you this morning’.

Were the ‘good old days’ of Worship those before Corona hit? Yep. Will we see a ‘new normal?’ Yep to that too. I’m thinking of calling it the ‘even better future’. Theologically speaking, the purposes of the church are many. But at the root of them all is the desire to Worship God and know the presence of the Lord in our life. That is a constant in our
changing world. Stay tuned.

Masking the Congregation
Through the collaboration and sewing skills of Susan Sinks, Lori Frueauf, and Linda Emmons, we have offered home-sewn fabric masks to our church family. The initial offering returned requests for about 70 masks, 2 per person. These masks were made mostly from resources on hand and were generously donated by our sewing team. Did we miss asking you? We are sorry, and want to include you! Please call, email, or text Pastor Karen, and we will get to work!

Also please contact me if extended family or friends need masks, we may be able to supply them (might be a small charge for materials, not sure of that yet). Want to sew some masks? Great! Contact me or one of our sewing volunteers and we can share patterns and methods. Have some extra elastic you could donate? Fabulous, that is the item most difficult to find right now.

And all that contact information again…
